Pennsylvania has finally won some funding in the federal Race to the Top grant competition.

The state didn’t win in the first two rounds of competition. But the state announced today that it has been awarded about $41 million in the third round.

The newest round of funding makes a total of 22 states that have been awarded grants, according to a news release. Pennsylvania’s grant will be allocated over the next four years by the state education department.

Much of the grant will be used for the new teacher evaluation system that is currently being piloted in more than 100 schools, including four districts and one charter school in York County, according to the news release. Other funds will be used for further developing the Pennsylvania Standards Aligned System, which provides tools and resources for improving student achievement, the release said.

The release says half of the funding will be appropriated to local education agencies (school districts) but it does not say how.
